An Israeli soldier was killed in the Gaza Strip on October 9 just a few hours before the government approved a deal with Hamas that is meant to end the war, putting in motion a partial withdrawal from the Palestinian enclave.

In a statement, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said that the soldier, a Technology and Maintenance Corps soldier in the 614th Combat Engineering Battalion, was killed in a Hamas sniper attack in Gaza City. A ceasefire as part of the deal reached a day earlier had not yet taken effect when the attack was carried out.

A total of nine Palestinians were killed and several more were wounded across Gaza by IDF fire on the same day, according to medical sources from the Strip.

Later in the day, the Israeli government approved the deal with Hamas to free all 48 remaining hostages in Gaza, including 20 who are believed to be still alive.

The release of the hostages, in exchange for some 2,000 Palestinian security prisoners and a partial IDF withdrawal from Gaza, is the first phase of the peace plan presented by United States President Donald Trump in September and accepted by both Israel and Hamas earlier this month.

Shortly after the approval of the deal, a ceasefire went into effect and the IDF began withdrawal from the agreed-upon deployment lines in Gaza.

The partial withdrawal was completed by October 10 afternoon, according to the IDF, which said that its troops were still prepared to face any threat.

“As of 12:00 [p.m.], IDF troops have positioned themselves on the updated deployment lines, in accordance with the outline of the ceasefire and the return of the hostages agreement,” the military said in a statement.

“IDF troops in the Southern Command are deployed in the area and will continue to operate to eliminate any immediate threat,” it added.

U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff later announced that the U.S. Central Command had confirmed that the IDF completed its withdrawal.

Within 72 hours, meaning by October 13, Hamas is set to release the hostages it is holding, beginning with the 20 believed to be alive.

“The 72-hour period to release the hostages has begun,” Witkoff said on X.

Thousands of Palestinians began returning to their areas after the withdrawal, with the IDF’s Arabic-language spokesperson Col. Avichay Adraee confirming that moving from southern Gaza to the Strip’s north, and vice versa, is permitted via the Rashid coastal road and the Salah a-Din highway.

In a public address issued later on, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised that in the subsequent stages of the peace plan, “Hamas will be disarmed, and Gaza will be demilitarized.” While the Trump represented by Trump calls for these measures, Hamas has not yet outright approved these points.

Netanyahu went on to threaten Hamas with an implied return to war: “If this is achieved the easy way, great. And if not, it will be achieved the hard way.”

Overall, despite the last minute clashes, the deal appears to be progressing well. Of course, Israel could escalate again, as Netanyahu’s latest remarks suggest, but this could only happen after the release of the hostages. Hamas is likely aware of this risk.

As of October 10, the war on Gaza has claimed the lives of 67,194 Palestinians with more than 169,890 wounded. On the Israeli side, 2,080 people have been killed, with troops making up more than half of the number. More than 13,500 others have been wounded.

the jooz did a lot of kiddie killing, torturing, looting and raping, but that’s just jooz being jooz. hamas has fought the zio tik tok diaper army to a standstill for 2 years and 3 days. if anybody thinks this is over, i’ve got a bridge to sell them. the chances of the jooz honouring any agreement are precisely zero. joo ceasefires last about half an hour on a good day. one million plus settlers and squatters have taken the samsonite option and bugged out of occupied palestine.

60,000 plus businesses have gone bust. shlomo’s little ports are deserted. tourism toast. zio government bonds toilet paper. zero foreign investment. intel have cancelled a $25 billion project. shlomo was defenceless against missile attack and had to rely completely on goy whores and arab quislings for its defence. even maga retards have had a bellyful of joo leeching.
