On June 3, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told his cabinet that he will head to Berlin, Paris and London in order to convince the EU states to support the US-Israeli campaign to abort the Iranian nuclear deal and to punish Teheran for employing an independent foreign policy in the region.
Israel was among of a few, if not the only one, countries that supported a decision of US President Donald Trump to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal.
Netanyahu’s visit comes amid reports that the US, Russia and Iran have reached an agreement on the situation in southern Syria. Under the alleged agreement Iranian-backed forces will have to withdraw from southern Syria while the Syrian Army will re-establish control over the border with Jordan and the contact line with Israel.
However, these reports were rejected by the Syrian Foreign Ministry. Its head, Walid Muallem, said that there will be no agreement on southern Syria while US forces are deployed in the At-Tanf area.
At the same time, Israel announced that its navy will take part in large-scale exercises led by the US 3rd fleet. The drills are entitled the Rim of the Pacific Exercise (RIMPAC) and the Israeli Navy will take part it it for the first time.
The RIMPAC will be held off of the coast of Hawaii and Southern California from June 27 to August 2 involving 26 nations, 47 surface ships, five submarines, 18 national land forces, and more than 200 aircraft and 25,000 servicemen.
The RIMPAC will include live firing of long range anti-ship missiles (LRASMs) from US Air Force aircraft and naval strike missiles (NSMs) by the US Army.
