Israeli Jamming Triggers Syrian Air Defense Systems In Damascus - Reports

Illustrative image,

At the late hours of December 8, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that the Syrian Arab Air Defense Forces (SyAADF) opened fire at several unidentified flying objects over the Damascus International Airport.

Minutes later, the SANA deleted its report without providing any explanation. Several pro-government sources suggested that some of the SyAADF’s older systems around the Damascus International Airport were triggered by “stand-off jamming” from Israel.

Prior to the mysterious incident, a Syrian and an Iranian cargo planes landed in the Damascus International Airport. Some observers claimed that the two planes were carrying an arms shipment for Lebanese Hezbollah. If confirmed, the jamming could be considered a message from Tel Aviv to Damascus and Tehran.

The Damascus government claimed last month that the SyAADF foiled an attack by the Israeli Air Force (IAF) on military positions south of Damascus. Despite that many Israeli and Syrian oppositions sources denied these claims, they are yet to prove that anything was hit.
