Israel carried out more strikes on southern Lebanon, the heartland of Hezbollah, on April 3 causing material losses and damage.
Early in the morning, Israeli drones attacked with at least three munitions a newly established center of the Islamic Health Authority, a Lebanese Civil Defense organization affiliated with Hezbollah, close to the key coastal town of Naqoura.
The attack completely destroyed the center and damaged two ambulances as well as a fire truck, the organization said in a statement, adding that “this aggression is part of a series of daily violations and attacks, as the Israeli enemy continues its criminal activities that began in its last war on Lebanon.”
Another Israeli drone strike targeted a vehicle near the town of Bint Jbeil later in the morning, with the Lebanese Health Ministry reporting that two people were wounded.
Hezbollah began launching attacks against Israel on October 8 of 2023, in support of the Palestinian Hamas Movement, which had launched a surprise attack from the Gaza Strip into Israel just a day earlier. After taking heavy losses, the group agreed to a ceasefire last November.
The ceasefire, which was brokered by the United States, was supposed to end all clashes on the Israeli-Lebanese border by February 18. However, the Israeli military continued to launch strikes against Hezbollah. It also deployed troops at five strategic posts in southern Lebanon.
Israel escalated in recent weeks, launching two strikes against targets of Hezbollah in the capital, Beirut, on March 27 and April 1 in response to rocket attacks which the group denied responsibility for.
Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem warned in a speech after the first strike that if Israel continues to carry out strikes in Lebanon then the group will take matters into its own hands. However, Israel escalated again by killing Hassan Bdair, a senior intelligence commander of the group, in the second strike.
Evidently, Hezbollah is attempting to avoid another confrontation. Israel on the other hand appears to be pushing to end the ceasefire.
