An Israeli civilian and a soldier were killed on November 7 in two separate rocket attacks claimed by Lebanon’s Hezbollah.

The civilian was killed when Hezbollah launched a barrage of rockets at northern Israel. The body of the young man was only discovered hours after the attack in the settlement of Kfar Masaryk close to the city of Acre.

Israel’s Magen David Adom ambulance service said in a statement a farm worker who found the dead body led medics to the site, where they located the man suffering from severe shrapnel injuries and immediately declared him dead at the scene.

The man was later identified by Hebrew media as Sivan Sade, an 18-year-old from Kfar Masaryk who was working in the fields.

Separately, a soldier from the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) was killed after Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets at the settlement of Avivim near the border with Lebanon.

The slain soldier was named as Sargent Ariel Sosnov Sasonov, 20, of the 605th Combat Engineering Battalion, from Jerusalem. Three other soldiers were lightly wounded in the attack, which also caused extensive material damage to Avivim.

Hezbollah announced later that it used a new type of heavy artillery rockets, dubbed “Nour-1,” in the deadly attack on the settlement.

According to the IDF, Hezbollah fired more than 150 rockets at Israel throughout November 7, including a barrage on the Haifa Bay area and another on the outskirts of Tel Aviv city.

The clashes on the Lebanese-Israeli border first broke out after the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, with Hezbollah launching attacks in support of the Palestinian enclave. Israel escalated its attacks on Lebanon starting from September 17 and on September 27 it assassinated the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Hassan Nassrallah.

The IDF launched a limited ground operation in southern Lebanon on September 30. However, it is yet to make any meaningful gains and the rate of Hezbollah rocket attacks is increasing.

The confrontation has so far resulted in 41 civilian deaths in Israel and the occupied Syrian Golan Heights as well as the deaths of at least 62 soldiers and security officers. On the Lebanese side, more than 3,000 people have been killed, including more than 500 members of Hezbollah.
