The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) intensified its strikes on southern Lebanon, the heartland of Hezbollah, on May 15, ignoring the ceasefire brokered by the United States last November.
Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) said that Israeli attack helicopters carried out three strikes on the town of Houla in the morning. One of the strikes destroyed a pre-built room that was recently set up by Wata’awanuu, a Hezbollah-linked humanitarian organization.
Another pre-built room was struck later in the morning in the outskirts of the town of Aadaissah, according to the state-run news agency.
It also reported that small drones launched by the IDF dropped stunt grenades on a destroyed school in the town of Dhayra and a house in the town of Kfarkela.
Later in the afternoon, the NNA said that an Israeli combat drone targeted an engineering vehicle on the road between the towns of Arnoun and Yohmor, killing one person. The IDF later announced that it struck a member of Hezbollah who was involved in restoring a site of the group in the area.
The IDF has launched hundreds of strikes against targets of Hezbollah in southern Lebanon and other parts of the country, including the capital Beirut, since the U.S.-brokered ceasefire came into effect on November 27. Over 140 members of Hezbollah have been killed since then.
Just between May 13 and 14, three members of the group, including a commander, were killed in three separate drone strikes on southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah, which took heavy losses during the last confrontation with the IDF, has so far refrained from responding. Considering the immense pressure the group is facing from the Lebanese government, the situation will not likely change any time soon.
