On April 27, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) released video footage showing an airstrike that targeted a building in the southern Lebanese town of Kafr Kila, where two Hezbollah fighters were gathered a day earlier. .
One of the fighters was already at the building when the second was identified by the 869th Combat Intelligence Collection Unit, the IDF said in a statement, adding that the troops then called in an airstrike.
The IDF said that separate overnight strikes targeted buildings used by Hezbollah in the towns of Rihan and Kfarchouba as well as other infrastructure in the town of Shebaa in southern Lebanon. Israeli troops also shelled areas near the town of Aalma al-Shaab in the same region with artillery to “remove threats,” it added.
Hezbollah mourned two of its fighters on April 27. In two separate statements the group said the two were killed “on the road to Jerusalem,” a phrase used to refer to those killed by the IDF during the confrontation.
At least two attacks targeted Israeli settlements after the deadly strikes on southern Lebanon. A salvo of rockets hit Kiryat Shemona and anti-tank guided missiles struck a building in al-Manara. Hezbollah has not yet claimed responsibility for the attacks.
The clashes on the Lebanese-Israeli border first broke out after the start of the war in Gaza last October, with Hezbollah and its allies carrying out attacks in support of the Strip. The border clashes gained momentum in the last few weeks. However, a serious escalation remains unlikely.
So far, the clashes have resulted in nine civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of at least 11 IDF soldiers and reservists. On the Lebanese side, more than 400 people have been killed, including 271 fighters of Hezbollah and at least 70 civilians.
