On November 29, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) fired at a vehicle of the Lebanese military in the vicinity of the town of Houla in southern Lebanon.
Lebanon’s National News Agency said that Israeli troops situated at al-Abad military site fired shots near a Lebanese military vehicle that was conducting a patrol near a United Nation peacekeeping post. The agency didn’t report any casualties.
Tensions have flared on the Lebanese front after the outbreak of the war in Gaza on October 7, with Hezbollah and its allies launching dozens of attacks against the IDF.
Hezbollah and its allies paused all operations against the IDF as a temporary ceasefire in Gaza entered into effect on November 24 morning, despite not being a part of the agreement between Israel and the Hamas Movement.
As of November 24, clashes on the Lebanese front have claimed the lives of six IDF troops, three Israeli civilians, 84 fighters of Hezbollah, two fighters from the Lebanese Resistance Brigades, one fighter from the Lebanese Resistance Regiments, seven fighters from Hamas, four fighters from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad and 12 Lebanese civilians.
The Israeli attack on the Lebanese military vehicle was not however the first incident to be reported on the front since the fighting came to a halt.
On November 25, the IDF intercepted several aerial targets over northern Israel and targeted a vehicle of UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon. However, the incidents didn’t result in any casualties and the unofficial ceasefire held up.
Hezbollah’s decision to pause operations against the IDF is likely meant to support the temporary ceasefire in Gaza. If Israel refuses to extend the ceasefire, fighting on the Lebanese front will likely resume.
