The Houthis (Ansar Allah) launched two ballistic missiles at Israel from Yemen early on September 2 morning, but they both failed and disintegrated over Saudi Arabia, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced.

In a brief statement, the military noted that it did not fire any interceptor missiles, nor were warning sirens sounded in Israel.

The IDF announced later in the day that the Israel Air Force intercepted a drone launched by the Houthis from Yemen, before it could enter Israeli territory. No sirens were activated in any part of the country, in accordance with the military’s policy.

There was no comment from the side of the Houthis. Typically, the group announces attacks on Israel within 24 hours. Meanwhile, Saudi media didn’t report any incident.

The attacks came nearly a week after Israeli strikes on the Houthi-controlled Yemeni capital, Sanaa, killed the Prime Minister of the group’s government, Ahmed al-Rahawi, along with eight of the ministers. Following the deadly strikes, the leader of the Houthis, Abdulmalik al-Houthi, said that the group would keep launching attacks against Israel, vowing to continue “targeting Israel with missiles and drones” and to escalate these attacks.

In an initial response, the Houthis launched a ballistic missile on August 31 at the Scarlet Ray, a Liberian-flagged oil tankers with direct links to an Israeli businessman, as it was sailing in the Red Sea. The missile missed the tanker. There were casualties or material losses.

Israel has so far launched sixteen attacks on Yemen, located around 2,000 kilometers away. Still, the Houthis were not deterred. Since March 18, when the IDF resumed its offensive in Gaza, the group has launched close to 74 ballistic missiles and more than 24 suicide drones at targets in Israel. The group also sank two ships directly linked to Israel in the Red Sea during the same period.
