The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) acknowledged on October 29 that six troops were killed during fighting in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
Four of the troops were killed in the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza. They were all serving with the elite Multidomain Unit, or “Ghost” Unit.
According to an initial IDF probe, the incident took place after the troops of the elite unit entered a building in Jabalia in order for it to be used for the military’s ongoing operations in the camp. In one of the upper floors of the building, an explosive device was detonated, hitting the soldiers, the probe found. The blast killed four soldiers on the spot, and wounded three others, including one seriously.
In addition, an IDF officer who was wounded during fighting in northern Gaza earlier this month also succumbed to his wounds.
The officer was a company commander in the 401st Armored Brigade’s 52nd Battalion. He was seriously wounded on October 19 during fighting in Jabalia, according to the IDF.
The deaths brought Israel’s toll in the ground operations against Hamas and other Palestinian armed factions in Gaza and along its border to 367.
Separately, an IDF reservist seriously wounded during fighting in southern Lebanon last week succumbed to his wounds. The reservist served with the 55th Paratroopers Brigade’s 7155th Battalion. The IDF said that he was seriously wounded in battle on October 24.
His death brought the toll of the IDF since the beginning of of ground operations against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon to 42.
Israel has been paying an unusually high price for its multi-front war. So far this month, over 80 Israelis have been killed, including more than 60 troops. Still, the Israeli government appears to be determined to go on with its war on Gaza and Lebanon.
