On May 31, ISIS terrorists attacked a post of the Nigerien Armed Forces in the Diffa region in the southeastern part of the country.
Heavy clashes broke out between the terrorists and Nigerien soldiers, who retreated from the post in the end. According to ISIS claims, two soldiers were killed during the attack. The group’s fighters also captured a pickup truck and a lot of weapons.
Amaq released several photos from the attack, confirming that at least two Nigerien soldiers were captured by ISIS fighters.
Last month, ISIS cells in Niger have carried out a number of attacks against government forces. On May 2, the terrorists ambushed a military unit near the town of Talia in the Tahoua region in western Niger. On May 4, the terrorists attacked a military post in the town of Einthusan in the southwestern region of Tillabéri. More than 30 Nigerien soldiers were killed in these two attacks.
ISIS is fighting to expand its influence in Niger. The terrorist group is especially active in the areas bordering Nigeria, where it maintains a strong presence.
