On November 27, ISIS terrorists attacked a large force of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies in the central region of Syria.
The terrorists took the force by surprise while it was conducting a combing operation near the city of Palmyra in the eastern Homs countryside. Heavy clashes broke out between the terrorists and SAA troops a few kilometers away from the ancient city.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a service member of the SAA was killed in the hit-and-run attack. The London-based group didn’t report any losses in the ranks of ISIS.
ISIS’s remaining cells in central Syria have been waging an insurgency against the SAA and its allies for around four years now.
The terrorists were forced to slow down their activities in the region in the last few months as a result of a series of successful air and ground operation. However, they are still present not only in the eastern Homs countryside, but also in the eastern Hama countryside, the southern Raqqa countryside and the western countryside of Deir Ezzor.
Exactly ten days ago, ISIS cells killed or wounded five pro-government fighters in two separate attacks in the southeastern Raqqa countryside and the northwestern countryside of Deir Ezzor.
While ISIS insurgency in central Syria is still far from being over, the security situation in the region is slowly improving. The terrorists are currently contained in remote areas, away from key urban centers and strategic roads.
