On August 29, Egyptian troops operating in the northern part of Sinai Peninsula were targeted with a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (SVBIED).
ISIS quickly claimed responsibility for the attack, which took place near the town of Iqtiyah located to the west of the city of Bir El Abd.
In a statement, the terrorist group’s news agency, Amaq, identified the suicide bomber as “Abu Azzam al-Masri.” The agency also shared photos of the SVBIED attack. An armored bulldozer of the Egyptian Armed Forces was destroyed in the blast.

Egyptian sources revealed that the attack targeted Egyptian troops conducting a security operation west of Bir El Abd. The sources confirmed that several service members were killed or injured.
Earlier this week, ISIS targeted a battle tank and armored bulldozer of the Egyptian armed forces near Iqtiyah with improvised explosive devices.
ISIS is working to reassert its influence in the Sinai Peninsula. The SVBIED attack in Iqtiyah indicates that the terrorist group’s efforts are successful, to some extent.
