On April 24, ISIS news agency Amaq shared photos of a recent attack by the group’s cells on the Iraqi Federal Police in the northern province of Kirkuk.
The attack, which took place on April 22, targeted a police post near the town of al-Suss in the southern countryside of Kirkuk. Amaq’s photos shows ISIS fighters targeting the post with assault rifles and rocket-propelled grenades.
According to Amaq’s claims, two policemen were killed and several others were wounded as a result of the attack. The post was also damaged.
ISIS cells have been quite active in Kirkuk. The Hamrin Mountains, which lay along the administrative border with the province of Saladin, is the main stronghold of the terrorist group in Kirkuk. The mountains were targeted by the Iraqi Air Force on several occasions over the last few months.
The attack on the police post in al-Suss didn’t result in any real losses. However, it shows how ISIS cells in Iraq are now carrying out larger and bolder attacks.
