On April 27, ISIS news agency Amaq shared photos of a recent deadly attack by the group’s fighters in the Malian Gao Region.

The attack, which took place on March 15, saw ISIS terrorists ambushing a convoy of the Malian military near the town of Tessit, located 60 km southeast of Ansongo, near Mali’s border with Burkina Faso and Niger.

At least 33 Malian soldiers were killed and 14 wounded as a result of the attack, according to the Malian military. Amaq said that three military vehicles were burned while a fourth was captured by ISIS fighters.

The terrorist group did not report any losses in the ambush. Nevertheless, the Malian military claimed that 20 attackers were killed.

ISIS is only one of several terrorist groups active in Mali today. The situation in the country is still far from being stable. The 2013 French-led intervention and the UN mission are yet to end the insurgence in the country.
