On February 27, two landmines planted by ISIS terrorists killed ten civilians and wounded 12 others in the eastern Hama countryside, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency.
The civilians were hunting for truffles in the eastern outskirts of the town of Salamiyah when they stumbled upon the terrorist group’s landmines. The first landmine killed nine and wounded two others in the village of al-Mustariha, while the second killed one and wounded ten more in a nearby area.

The state-run news agency said that the landmines were “remnants” from the time ISIS had presence in the eastern countryside of Hama. However, that attack was likely deliberate. The terrorist group has been already blamed for two other attacks that targeted truffle hunters in central Syria this year.
Four people were killed and ten others were wounded on February 11 when they were attacked by ISIS terrorists while collecting truffles to the south of the ancient city of Palmyra in the eastern Homs countryside. Later on February 18, the terrorists massacred 45 civilians who were collecting truffles from the southeastern outskirts of al-Sukhnah town in the eastern Homs countryside along with eight security personnel who were guarding them.
ISIS cells usually attack truffle hunters, sheepherders and travelers in central Syria to steal their vehicles, money and belongings. The terrorist group rarely claims responsibility for such terrorist attacks.
The recent attacks indicate that ISIS’s insurgency in central Syria is still far from over. Syrian government forces and their allies intensified operations in the region in the wake of these attacks. However, more needs to be done to contain the threat posed by the terrorist group.
