ISIS Commander Omar al-Shishani Killed in Shirqat, Iraq

Notorious ISIS commander Omar al-Shishani has been killed in clashes with Iraqi security forces near Shirqat, the  ISIS-linked media outlet ‘Amaq’ reported.

According to reports, Omar al-Shishani participated in operations in order to prevent the Iraqi military advances south of Mosul.

Omar al-Shishani was a Georgian Kist jihadist who served as a commander for the Islamic State in Syria, and previously as a sergeant in the Georgian Army. He was a veteran of the 2008 Russo-Georgian War and became jihadist after being discharged from the Georgian militar. He served in various command positions with Islamist militant groups fighting in Syria and Iraq. Before joining ISIS, Omar al-Shishani was the leader of the militant group Muhajireen Brigade, and its successor, Jaish al-Muhajireen wal-Ansar.
