ISIS have claimed responsibility for a recent attack which targeted the Bai Hasan oil field in the northern Iraqi province of Kirkuk.

During the daring attack, which took place early on May 5, ISIS terrorists blew up two oil wells in the field. The terrorists also killed an Iraqi policeman and injured at least three others. However, no serious material losses were reported.

On May 6, ISIS news agency Amaq shared photos of the attack. The photos show a number of masked terrorists planting explosives at Wells 183 and 177.

This was the second attack by the terrorist group on the Bai Hassan oil field this year. The first attack took place on April 17. Back then, the terrorists also blew up two wells.

ISIS cells stepped up their operations in Kirkuk in the last few weeks. Photos released recently by Amaq show the group’s fighters planting mines, firing mortars, rockets, monitoring Iraqi military posts and going around their daily chores.

The situation in Kirkuk is clearly getting worse. Despite this, the Iraqi military security forces are yet to take decisive action against ISIS cells in the province.
