On February 22, four ISIS fighters stormed a HQ of the Egyptian Army 101st Division in the city of al-Arish in the northern part of the Sinai Peninsula, according to the ISIS-linked news agency Amaq.
Amaq said that ISIS fighters had killed and injured several Egyptian soldiers and then had blown themselves up with suicide belts they were wearing which. The explosion reportedly led to the destruction of many army vehicles.

Meanwhile, the ISIS-linked newspaper al-Naba’a claimed in a detailed infographic that ISIS had fighters killed 40 Egyptian soldiers since the beginning of the Egyptian Army military operation in the Sinai Peninsula on February 9. ISIS fighters allegedly destroyed 14 vehicles of the army in Sinai, according to the al-Naba’a infographic.

From its side, Egyptian Army Spokesman Colonel Tamer Rifai announced during his weekly press conference that the Egyptian Air Force (EAF) had destroyed 158 positions of ISIS in the Sinai Peninsula. Furthermore, the army artillery destroyed 413 other positions of ISIS, while army units discovered and destroyed 1282 hideouts of ISIS cells in Sinai, according to Col. Rifai.
The army spokesman also said that 71 fighters of ISIS had been killed and 1852 suspects had been arrested by the army since the start of the the ongoing operation in Sinai.
During the press conference, Col. Rifai stressed that the Egyptian Army and security forces will continue its military operation until the peninsula is fully secured from terrorism. This effort may take a notable time.
