Iraqi Security Forces Make Notable Gains In Old Mosul

On Thursday, Iraqi security forces (ISF) continued their advance in the Old Mosul area on the right side of Mosul city. ISF liberated the historical Church of Saidat al-Saa`a and the Al-Nouri al-Kabir Mosque in the center of Old Mosul.

On Thursday morning, ISF launched attacks from the northern, southern and western directions on ISIS positions in Old Mosul. They managed to liberate the entire western half, and ISIS fighters trapped between the Tigris River and the advancing Iraqi forces.

In Al-Shifa district, ISF finally liberated the Al-Batoul Hospital and rescued 20 children from it. ISF are currently working to evacuate the remaining civilians in 5 streets under ISIS control inside Old Mosul.

Yesterday, Iraqi security forces killed two ISIS suicide bombers in Yones district on the left side of Mosul. ISIS fighters seem to be trying to leave among civilians or cross the Tigris River to the left side of the city.

It is believed that the Thursday ISF operation caused a breakdown among the remaining ISIS fighters on the right side of Mosul. However, it is still too early to say that Mosul has been completely liberated from ISIS.
