The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella group of Iran-backed armed factions, announced on September 27 that it had launched more cruise missiles and suicide drones at Israel in support of the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.

In three separate statements, the group said it struck two military sites in the occupied Golan Heights and a vital target in Israel.

The attacks were carried out “in response to the massacres committed by the usurping entity [Israel] against civilians, including children, women, and the elderly” in the Palestinian enclave of the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, the group added, vowing that “operations against enemy strongholds will continue at an increasing pace.”

Videos released by the group showed what appears to be three Iranian-made Shahed-101 suicide drones being launched. Aside from having a range of several hundred kilometers, not much is known about the drone.

Responding to the group announcement, the Israeli Defense Forces said in a brief statement that it was unaware of any projectiles reaching the country from Iraq overnight.

A day earlier, the IRI launched a similar wave of strikes against Israel and managed to hit the Red Sea port of Eilat. At least two people were wounded.

The IRI began carrying out attacks against Israel as well as against United States forces in Iraq and neighboring Syria last October in response to the Israeli war on Gaza. Since then, the group has launched dozens of attacks against Israel using cruise missiles and suicide drones.

Earlier this week, the group escalated its attacks against Israel in response to the IDF’s ongoing aerial campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
