On May 2, two convoys moving logistic supplies and equipment for the US-led coalition in Iraq’s central and southern regions came under attack.
The first convoy was targeted near the city of al-Samawah in the southern province of al-Muthanna. A newly-founded group calling itself ‘Uwlu al-A’azm claimed responsibility for the attack.
The second convoy came under attack as it was passing in the district of Hillah near the capital Baghdad in the central province of Balbyun. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, so far.
Both attacks were carried out with improvised explosive devices, per the Sabereen News Telegram channel. No human losses were reported.
These were the 7th and 8th supply convoys of the US-led coalition to come under attack by Iraqi “resistance” forces this week.
- On April 27, four supply convoys were attacked in al-Diwaniyah, al-Anbar, Basrah and Dhi Qar.
- On April 29, two supply convoys were attacked in al-Anbar and Babylon.
The attacks on US supply convoys and facilities in Iraq are a response to the assassination of Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, Deputy-Commander of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units, and Commander of Iran’s Quds Force, Qassim Soleimani.
The main goal of pro-Iranian forces in Iraq is to push US forces out from the country. Washington will not likely commit to a full withdrawal from Iraq anytime soon.

Several attacks on covoys where no one was killed , perhaps a vehicle or two damaged and perhaps even some materials being transported damaged or lost. Basically pin pricks on an elephant. Until a number of vehicles and cargo in each convoy are destroyed and several drivers killed then these attacks are of nothing more than nuisance value..
