The Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI) announced on February 1 that it had carried out an attack on the port of Haifa in northern Israel.
The key port was targeted with drones, the group, which is made of Iranian-backed armed factions in Iraq, said in a statement, noting that the attack was carried out in response to Israeli “massacres” against Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli military didn’t announce any security incidents or interceptions in Haifa or nearby areas. There were also no reports of sires or blasts in Hebrew media.
The IRI has launched several attacks against Israel using suicide drones and cruise missiles since the war broke out in Gaza. Some of the most recent attacks targeted a base of the Israeli Navy near the town of ZevulunI to the north of Haifa as well as the port of Ashdod in southern Israel.
In addition to the direct attacks on Israel, the IRI launched more than a hundred attacks against U.S. forces in Iraq and neighboring Syria in order to pressure Washington over its unconditional support for the Israeli war on Gaza.
The attack on Haifa port came just two days after Kataib Hezbollah, which is believed to be the main faction of the IRI, announced a pause in operation against U.S. forces. The decision came after three American troops were killed in a drone attack on the Syrian-Iraqi border. It also came ahead of talks on the future of U.S. military presence in Iraq.
The IRI, which possesses advanced offensive capabilities, is apparently determined to go on with its military campaign against Israel.
