The Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI), an umbrella group of Iran-backed armed factions, announced on October 27 that it had carried out three more attacks against Israel in support of the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
In separate statements, the group said that it launched suicide drones at two “vital targets” in the Israeli-occupied Syrian Golan Heights and another in the southernmost Israeli city of Eilat.
The attacks were carried out “in response to the massacres committed by the usurping entity [Israel] against civilians, including children, women, and the elderly” in Gaza and Lebanon, the group said, vowing that “operations against enemy strongholds will continue at an increasing pace.”
Iranian-made Shahed-101 suicide drones were used in the attacks, according to videos released by the group. This type of suicide drones is said to have a range of 900 kilometers and a cruising speed of 120 kilometers per hour with a warhead weighing eight kilograms.
From its side, the IDF said on October 27 that it successfully intercepted a drone making its way “from the east,” using terminology usually reserved for attacks launched from Iraq by the IRI. The drone did not cross into Israeli territory, according to the military.
The IRI began carrying out attacks against Israel as well as against United States forces in Iraq and neighboring Syria last October in response to the Israeli all-out war on Gaza.
The group escalated its attacks against Israel in September in response to Israel’s ongoing aerial campaign and ground operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
