Fighters from the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) repelled an ISIS assault on their positions at the Khales river in the vicinity of Al-Mansouriah northeast of Ba’aquba. Sources embedded in the 24th Liwa’ that operate under the PMU confirmed ISIS’s failure. 3 ISIS terrorists were killed and injured according to the report.
From its side, the ISIS-linked news agency Amaq stated that the operation near Ba’aquba had led to the killing of 12 Iraqi soldiers and a destruction of vehicle with an IED.
Amaq published pictures showing the targeting of an Iraqi Army vehicle on the Karaghul road near Al-Yusfiah.
ISIS also claimed that it had carried out a defensive operation in western Mosul against the advancing Iraqi forces in Bab al-Hadid district where the terrorist group held several positions. Iraqi SWAT forces clashed with ISIS fighters in the edges of Yarmouk district where the terror group allegedly destroyed two vehicles and a bulldozer belonging to pro-government forces.
Iraqi forces confirmed their operation in Old Mosul against a group of ISIS fighters in the infamous Nouri Mosque. The operation to capture the key mosque of the self-proclaimed caliphate was announced last month.
Separately, the PMU demined two mine fields set up by ISIS north of Jahf village in Mosul. Dozens of mines were removed.
The PMU also said that its fighters had delivered humanitarian aid to over 1500 displaced families in Mosul.
