The Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) continued advancing against ISIS near the important town of Qayrawan under the Operation Mohammed Rasool Allah 2.
The PMU liberated the villages of Tal al-Qasab, Ain al-Ghazal, Ain Fathi al-Shamaliya and Aziz north of Qayrawan. The PMU also managed to liberate the residential compound in the vicinity of Mount Sinjar and cut the road between Tal al-Qasab and Al-Hatamiya village north of Qayrawan. South of Qayrawan, the PMU liberated the villages of Thary al-Awaisat, Al-Nilia, Al-Masbas and Sadat Zoba.
During the last 24 hours, the PMU killed 41 ISIS militants, destroyed 2 vbied and captured a third. Military engineer teams begun clearing mines and IEDs from the liberated villages.
The Iraqi forces advance has slowed down in western Mosul city after capturing a major part of the Hawi al-Kanisah area and the Al-Najjar district, and liberating the 17 Tamoz district. Iraqi forces are currently concentrating on evacuating civilians from the ISIS-held areas.
Iraqi forces have also managed to capture large quantities of weapons during its advance.
From its side, ISIS claimed that its militants managed to kill nine Iraqi soldiers and destroy three Humvees with a VBIED in the Al-Rifai district. ISIS also claimed that three SWAT officers were killed and a bulldozer was damaged during clashes in the outskirts of Al-Rifai.
It seems that within 2 weeks, we will see the end of the Mosul operation, and a renewed focus on Anbar and the Syrian-Iraqi border.
Beautiful.
