Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units Liberate Ancient Hatar Town Southwest Of Mosul

On the second day of Operation “Muhammad Rasool Allah” in southern Mosul,  the Iraqi Mobilization Units (PMU) liberated the ancient Hatar town located northwest of Hatar city. PMU forces besieged Hatar city from three directions and cut off the town’s road.

The PMU captured the villages of Saadan, Saida and Haraj north of Hatar and the villages of Umm Kreiz and Ghanim Al-Awad south of Hatar. PMU foces also seized the old ammunition depot in north of Hatar and the second depots area east of Hatar.

In the course of their advance, PMU fighters killed 61 terrorists from ISIS, including 19 suicide bombers and destroyed 8 VBIEDs with Kornet ATGMs. PMU engineer teams removed a majority of ISIS fortifications and IEDs in the vicinity of Hatar.

The Iraqi Air Force provides a close air support to the PMU operation, which is fully coordinated with the Iraqi Army leadership.

Separately, the PMU evacuated 2,500 civilians from the vicinity of Hatar and moved them to safe areas until the operation is over.

It is expected that the PMU will impose a full siege on the city prior to launching a final sotrm of it.
