Iraqi Forces Recapture More Areas in Western Mosul

The Iraqi Forces have continued its advances in the province of Nineveh and managed to recapture a strategic area, located in the western part of Mosul city.

“Wadi Hajr district is now under the full control of the Iraqi forces,” Commander of the Mosul’s Military Operations, Major General Abdel Amir Rashid Yarallah, said on Friday.

Terrorists of the Islamic State (IS) group suffered heavy losses during offensives of the Iraqi Forces.

On Thursday, the Iraqi government forces disrupted an attack, planned by IS terrorists, as they launched their offensive before militants managed to advance. According to a number of reports, terrorists claimed to be internally displaced people and managed to reach a place, located near elite Iraqi units in the southwestern part of Mosul, just some 400 kilometers to the north of the capital of Baghdad. However, the militants were neutralized before they had a chance carry out any terrorist attack.

Meanwhile, two children were wounded by mortar shells, which were fired by IS terrorists and hit Karaj district, located in the northeastern part of Mosul. The victims were taken to a local hospital to receive medical treatment.

At the same time, Commander of the Federal Police’s Forces, Lieutenant General Raed Shaker Jawdat, announced that a series of surprise attacks on fortifications of IS terrorists had been launched by the security forces in the western part of Mosul. The Lieutenant General said that dozens of displaced families had been evacuated from the area and moved to refugee camps in Hammam al-Alil town, located about 30 kilometers to the south of Mosul.
