Iraqi authorities had apprehended the orchestrator of the January 28 rocket attack on Baghdad International Airport, RT reported on January 29 citing an Iraqi source with knowledge on the matter.

The attack damaged an out-of-service Airbus A300B4 airliner of Iraqi Airways as well as one of the main runways of Baghdad International Airport. The supposed target of the attack was the US Camp Victory.

RT’s source identified the orchestrator of the attack as “Akram l-Qaisi”. The man is now being held at a prison run by the Interior Ministry.

“The arrest was carried out by the National Intelligence Service and the Intelligence Agency in the Ministry of Interior,” the unnamed source said.

The intelligence of Kata’ib Hezbollah, a pro-Iranian Shiite faction, claimed that al-Qaisi, who is a Sunni, is affiliated with Mohamed al-Halbousi, Speaker of the Council of Representatives of Iraq. Al-Halbousi is known to be one of the US top allies in Iraq. These claims are yet to be confirmed.

Pro-Iranian forces warned from false-flag attacks by US allies in Iraq following the January 13 Baghdad rocket attack and the alleged January 15 drone attack on Balad Air Base. Tehran allies were blamed for both attacks despite the lack of evidence.
