UPDATE (14:00 CET): Social media outlets, linked with the Shia-dominated Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), report that the death toll has risen to 172. Number of injured people 196.
Two blasts have killed 83 and injured about 170 people in market areas in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
Interior Ministry spokesman Saad Maan said that the first blast that targeted the Shia-populated Karrada district had come from a car bomb. This blast claimed lifes of 78 people. 160 people wrer injured.
The second blast targeted the Shaab neighborhood, which is located in the northern part of Baghdad. At least 5 people were killed and another 16 were injured as a suspected homemade explosive device was used to hit a market there.
