The Iranian security forces killed a ringleader of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group in the border areas of Iran, the PressTV news portal reported on Tuesday, citing Iranian Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi.

“This individual, named Abu Aisha al-Kurdi, was killed along with a number of other [would-be] bombers along the country’s border,” the website quoted the words of Alavi.

He also noted that the IS ringleader tried to sneak into the Iranian capital of Tehran in order to carry out terrorist acts.

At the end of September, some media reported that Abu Aisha was killed by the Iranian security forces some time ago during a massive operation in one of the border cities, located in the western Iranian province of Kermanshah.

Alavi also added the Iranian security forces arrested many members of the terrorist group, confiscated a huge amount of their explosives and bomb-making materials, as well as thwarted their plots to undermine national security on the border and within the country.

“The Islamic establishment has many enemies across its borders who seek to wreck our security,” the Iranian Intelligence Minister said.

In August, Alavi announced that a senior spy, working for foreign intelligence services to destabilize the country’s borders, was killed by the Iranian security forces. At that time, he also noted that 12 teams were set up by foreign agencies, which paid $500,000 for every operation, $3,000 to each member per month and $10,000 to families of a killed member of the teams.

At the same time, on November 22, Iranian Interior Minister for Security Affairs Hossein Zolfaqari said that a terrorist team, stationed in the eastern parts of the country, also was eliminated by the Intelligence Ministry.
