Israel had crossed ‘red lines’ that could force everyone to take action, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi warned on October 29.
“Zionist regime’s crimes have crossed the red lines, which may force everyone to take action. Washington asks us to not do anything, but they keep giving widespread support to Israel. The United States sent messages to the Axis of Resistance but received a clear response on the battlefield,” the president said in a statement on his X [formerly known as Twitter] account.
Earlier, Raisi said in an interview with Al-Jazeera that Iran would not heed the U.S. warnings against interfering in the Israeli-Hamas conflict.
Tensions flared up in the Middle East on October 7 when the Hamas Movement, which is backed by Iran, launched a surprise attack on Israel from the Gaza Strip, killing hundreds of troops and civilians taking more than 200 hostages.
In response Israel announced a total blockade of Gaza and launched a military operation against Hamas and other armed factions in the Strip. The Israeli bombardment has so far killed more than 8,000 Palestinains. Clashes spread to the occupied West Bank and fighting broke out with Hezbollah on the Lebanon front. Israel also carried out strikes against Syria and there were reports of attacks from Yemen.
Moreover, Iranian-backed armed factions in Iraq launched around two dozen attacks against U.S. bases in the country and neighboring Syria.
While there is still no sign that Iran is about to join the fight directly, the Iranians are without a doubt prepared for an open war with Israel and the U.S.
Iran’s ground forces launched two days of exercises on October 27 to test the flight readiness of more than 200 helicopters, state television reported.
The drills, which had been planned earlier, are aimed at “confronting possible threats” facing the Islamic republic, spokesperson Amir Cheshak said. He did not elaborate. He said troops and military equipment had been transferred from seven of Iran’s provinces for the drills in Nasr Abad in the central Isfahan Province.
Raisi’s remarks indicate that Iran is about to get more involved in the ongoing conflict, most likely by helping its allies in the Middle East to launch more attacks against both Israel and the U.S. This would lead to even more escalation in the region.
