On July 13, an Iranian flag was raised over a communication tower in the key town of Tell Rifaat in the northern countryside of Syria’s Aleppo.

Tell Rifaat is held by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). However, the Syrian Arab Army is known to be deployed inside and around the town. Iranian-backed Syrian forces are also present near Tell Rifaat, mainly in the Shiite towns Nubl and al-Zahraa.

It remains unclear who exactly raised the Iranian flag over Tell Rifaat. Yet, the move must have been approved by the SDF.

The Iranian flag provoked Turkish-backed militants in the occupied area of Afrin, who shelled the town in anger. Local sources in the town didn’t report any casualties or material losses as a result of the shelling.

Tell Rifaat was one of two towns named by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as the main targets of any new military operation in Syria, with the other town being Manbij which is also located in the northern countryside of Aleppo.

The Turkish military and its proxies have been preparing for a new operation against the SDF in northern Syria for well over a month now.

Turkey’s threats have brought together the SDF and Syrian government forces. A recent report by Al-Monitor revealed that Kurdish, pro-government and Iranian-backed formations had established a joint operations room called the “North Thunderbolt” in the village of Hardatnin in the northern countryside of Aleppo to coordinate against any Turkish military operation.

The Iranian flag was likely raised over Tell Rifaat to signal the commitment of Syrian government forces and their allies to defending the town. The move also shows how Iran has begun to take a stricter stand against Turkish presence in Syria.

The good thing about the Syrian “civil war” is that the psionists and their slaves plot to oust Assad and break up Syria were utterly defeated, I specially enjoyed seing like one million Sunni-Wahhabi useful idiots die for the welfare funded banana republic of Israel. Slava Bashar Hafez al-Assad

Opfert Assad

It looks like Iran is ready now. They have been preparing. Putin is going to visit Iran next week. North Korea recognized the Lugansk and Donetsk republics, another sign of solidarity with Russia. Russia’s list of allies keeps growing now. Turkey is soon going to have to make a decision because for decades Erdogan has been playing both sides and his belligerence towards Syria has to come to an end.

Great insight! Lest we not forget, Russia, China and Iran are sending troops to a certain Latin-American country next month, August, to conduct the biggest foreign military exercises in that hemisphere ever. The Anglo-Zionist Empire of Lies is under attack and about to be sent to garbage bin of history. Such is their fear of losing their control that they are mad and desperate enough to contemplate a Sampson Option.

The Kurds would never raise the Iranian flag: Iran is as toxic to Kurds as is Turkey. This was something made by Syrians or directly by Iranians, who we know are present in Syria.

What about the Kurds in Iran? Everyone over looks this.

JJ345

“What about the Kurds in Turkey? Everyone overlooks this.”

Iran Kurds = 10M. Turkey Kurds = 14M. Both Iran and Turkey have a very good hold on Kurds and trust me that is for the best.

Maju

The Kurds in Iran are typically fighting against Iran, it has been that way for many decades already. Iran keeps a very hostile, almost genocidal, policy against Kurds.

JJ345

People in HK and Taiwan are mostly Chinese as well, but do they all support China? NO.

It is the same case here, I’m sure he is talking about Syrian and Iraqi Kurds, not Iranian Kurds.

You could also say – “The Kurds in Turkey raise the Turkish flag, therefore you are wrong…”

He isn’t wrong you know…but he isn’t right as well… Kurds each have a different opinion about Iran, Turkey, Syria, and Iraq TBH.

Typical Persian imperialism! Kurds are (linguistically speaking) Iranic but not Iranian. Iranian is not an ethnicity, Persian is.

Kurdish and Persian are two different languages, probably Kurdish derives from Mede, while Persian is a different language. As you may know, early Persians appeared in Elam (arguably Indoeuropeanized Elamites) and took over the Median Empire. Kurds are arguably Indoeuropeanized Hurrites instead, much like Armenians further north, however the Kurdish language stem is Iranic (Indo-Iranic, Eastern Indoeuropean) while the Armenian one is Phrygio-Macedonian instead (probably distantly related to Greek via Vucedol culture, Western Indoeuropean in any case).

Regardless, Kurdish ethno-national rights do not derive of anything we can say about ethnicity and language, but, as happens with all peoples, from their own will of being themselves and ruling themselves according to their own democratic self-rule.

Iran and Turkey (and to lesser extent the artificial post-colonial Arab “nations”) are imperialist against Kurds and other nations. No imperialism is acceptable, all imperialism must be defeated.

Long live the free peoples!

Maju

Iranic or Iranian is not the same, not when “Iranian” is euphemism for Persian. In any case, what the Kurds are developing is a multiethnic confederative and socialist project that is directly opposed to all those old “nation-states” (states with a privileged nation at their core) of the decadent bourgeoisie and associated residual landownerist classes.

The difference between you and me is that you belong to an imperialist ethnicity (Persian) and I belong to an oppressed ethnicity (Basque): Persians are like Turks or Spaniards: determined to erase all neighboring peoples in favor of their own ethnocentrism. That imperialism has to end: a more democratic and diverse way of living together is possible and that’s what Öcalan and comrades envision rightly.

I’m almost 54, so… “let me tell you about the real world, kiddo”: we only live once and we rightfully aspire to live free dignified lives, we can’t wait because life is too short for that, your supposed “real world” has changed before and is changing right now, it must change and we want the real world to be much better than the legacy of the Bronze and Iron Age slavist warlords, let alone the highly inefficient predatory Capitalism we suffer.

We stand at the most dramatic juntcure Humanity has ever been at: it is eco-communism or extinction, your “ideals” are dead in any case, kiddo.

Bob

That’s crazy. Didn’t Erdogan just travel to Iran to the Astana conference?
