Iran Sent Troops To Protect Damascus

Tehran promised to support their faithful ally, President Bashar al-Assad, to the end. The promise of help from Iranian President Rouhani for help was not an empty promise. According to information from Western intelligence agencies and a number of regional media, Iran has sent aid to Damascus in the number of 15 000 soldiers. “In the coming days the world will not be expecting the surprise which we are preparing together with the Syrian military leadership” – said the commander of the elite Iranian corps el-Quds force, General Qassem Soleimani. Iran has sent 15 000 soldiers to fight alongside a thinned and weakened government force of Syria. Website DEBKA and the Beirut newspaper Daily Star cite according to the reliable sources in Tehran, report on the airlifting to Syria, of Iranian auxiliary corps with a strength of about 15 000 people. Troops landed in the area of Damascus and Latakia. The rationale behind of the direct involvement of Iran in the Syrian civil war for the first time in four years is the military defense Treaty, signed by Tehran and Damascus in 2006.
