The United States on November 14 accused Iran of seizing a crude oil tanker as it traveled through the narrow Strait of Hormuz.
The seizure was first noted by the British maritime security firm Ambrey, which said that a Marshall Islands-flagged Talara tanker, en route from the United Arab Emirates to Singapore, made a sudden course deviation while transiting the Gulf of Oman and headed towards Iranian territorial waters. Shortly afterward, Ambrey described what happened with the Talara as an assault involving at least three small boats.
The incident was also reported by the British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center, which said that a possible “state activity” forced the Talara to turn into Iranian territorial waters.
Cyprus-based Columbia Shipmanagement later acknowledged in a statement that it had “lost contact” with the tanker, which was carrying high sulphur gasoil.
U.S. officials confirmed to The Associated Press that the tanker was seized by Iranian forces, without providing any details on the incident.
An MQ-4C Triton reconnaissance drone of the U.S. Navy was above the area where the Talara was seized, according to flight-tracking data analyzed by AP.

Iran has not yet acknowledged the seizure of the tanker. The incident came following reports suggesting that Israel could soon attack the Islamic Republic again. It also came amid a long stalemate in nuclear talks between Tehran and Washington.
The Islamic Republic has been increasingly warning it can strike back after facing a 12-day war in June with Israel that saw the U.S. attacking Iranian nuclear sites.
Overall, the incident could lead to serious escalation. Even if the seizure was carried out on a legal basis not related to politics, which happened more than once before, the U.S. could use this as an excuse to escalate against Iran on behalf of Israel.

strait of hormuz is not in america. the us has no legal right to this action. but they must be trying to lure iran into restsrting the conflict. iran could easily seal the straight in hours. for years ! which would send many economies into free fall collapse
