Iran Says Terrorist Team Sent By Foreign Intelligence Was ‘Identified’ & ‘Targeted’

On September 15, the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence announced that a terrorist team backed by intelligence services of “adversary countries” had been “identified” and “targeted”.

In a statement, the ministry said that the terrorist team was planning to attack and commit acts of terrorism against some of the country’s most sensitive and vital centers before being dismantled by the Iranian intelligence.

The ministry said that it will provide further details on the security operation that led to the neutralization of the terrorist team later.

A series of suspected sabotage attacks targeted Iran’s nuclear program this year. The Israeli intelligence was blamed on several occasions.

On April 11, a sabotage act allegedly prepared by the Israeli intelligence targeted Iran’s Natanz fuel enrichment plant. Later on June 20, a “temporary emergency shutdown” was reported at Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant.

The Iranian intelligence and security forces responded by stepping up security measures at all sensitive and vital facilities. As a result of these efforts, a plot to attack a building of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) in Karaj city, 40 km to the west of the capital Tehran, was thwarted on June 23.
