Iran Says It Arrested ‘Notorious Terrorist’ Who Fought In Syria

On August 17, the Iranian Intelligence Ministry announced that it had arrested a notorious international terrorist who fought in several Middle Eastern countries.

In a statement, the ministry said that the suspect took part in terrorist activities in four countries of the Middle East. He also joined terrorist groups in Syria at the height of the war, where he committed criminal acts in the governorates of Aleppo, Hama, and Idlib.

The suspect later moved out of Syria to “two neighboring countries” of Iran and joined another group, according to the ministry, which accused him of “destructive actions against the proud nation of Iran and the territorial integrity of the country.”

The ministry did not reveal the identity or nationality of this suspect, or even name the terrorist groups he used to work with.

The Iranian intelligence and security forces have been working nonstop to counter the threat posed by terrorist groups. Very recently, ten members of ISIS were arrested in Iran. The terrorists were planning to attack mourning ceremonies marking the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein, the third Shiite Imam.

It’s worth noting that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has been playing a key role in combating terrorist groups, especially ISIS and al-Qaeda, in Syria, Iraq and a number of other Middle Eastern countries for years now.
