Iran launched another barrage of ballistic missiles at Israel early on June 21, causing a fire near the country’s central region.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said that five missiles were launched in the attack. Hebrew media didn’t report any impacts or casualties, but said that interception fragments hit the roof of an apartment building in the area of Holon near the city of Tel Aviv.
Iranian media later shared videos showing the launch of multiple unidentified ballistic missiles at Israel, without clarifying if the footage were related to the morning attack.
In addition to the missile attack, the IDF said that several suicide drones launched from the Islamic Republic were intercepted overnight.
One drone impacted an open area in the Golan Heights. Another hit a house in the town of Beit She’an in eastern Israel, marking the first direct hit by an Iranian drone. No casualties were reported there. One more drone impact was later reported near the northern town of Arraba.
Iran has launched more than 450 ballistic missiles and 1,000 suicide drones since the start of the Israeli attack on its nuclear program, codenamed Operation Rising Lion on June 13, according to the IDF. The retaliatory attacks, codenamed Operation True Promise 3, claimed the lives of 25 people and left more than 500 others wounded in Israel.
Iran’s retaliatory attacks are becoming more and more effective, possibly as a result of adopting new tactics to overcome Israel’s exhausted air defense network.
While Iran’s retaliatory attacks against Israel are getting less intense, they are getting more frequent, accurate and devastating.
An Iranian official who spoke with CNN on June 21 confirmed that the Islamic Republic had changed its missile policy, replacing quantity with quality. Instead of firing large numbers of missiles, the official said, Iran is using more advanced precision missiles against sensitive military and security centers.
It was “observed that Iran launched a missile and the missile easily made its way through American THAAD, Patriot, Arrow 3, Arrow 2, David’s Sling and the family of Iron Dome systems, striking the predetermined target,” they added, referring to Israel’s latticework of missile defense systems.
Israel “should not be happy about the decrease in the number of missiles fired and better keep silent and merely become an observer in the face of the new balance of Iranian superior power,” the official warned.
