Iran has executed a man accused of spying for Israel, state media reported on September 17, identifying him as Babak Shahbazi.
The judiciary’s Mizan news agency said that Shahbazi gathered and sold sensitive information about Iranian data centers and security installations to Israeli handlers. It described him as working on “industrial cooling devices” as a contractor for companies that worked on telecommunications, military and security sites.
Shahbazi was accused of working for the Mossad spy agency alongside Esmaeil Fekri, another convict executed in June for spying for Israel since early 2022.
In a plot twist, Iranian opposition activists, including the Oslo-based group Iran Human Rights, alleged that Shahbazi was detained over writing a letter to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy offering to fight against Russia.
“Babak’s message to President Zelenskyy offering to help in the war against Russia was used as an example of espionage for Israel who they claim taught Babak to use Microsoft Word,” the monitoring group said.
Ukraine had accused Iran of supplying Russia with drones. These accusations were heavily used by Iranian opposition figures to slam the Islamic Republic.
Iran has hanged eight people, including at least one nuclear scientist, for espionage since its war with Israel last June. Hundreds others were reportedly arrested on spying charges.
During the 12-day war, over a dozen Iranian nuclear scientists and more than 30 of the Islamic Republic’s top military commanders were assassinated by the Israeli military and intelligence.
Mossad rule in the war was not limited to assassinations, however. The agency’s special forces led a covert attack on Iranian air defenses and ballistic missiles, deploying suicide drones and guided missiles from within the territories of the Islamic Republic.
A recent report by Israel’s Channel 13 revealed that the Mossad deployed some 100 highly-trained foreign agents in Iran on sabotage missions at the start of the war.
This was the largest-ever operation orchestrated by the spy agency and was incredibly complex, given the need to train the agents, who were not Israeli citizens, in the use of the sophisticated weapon systems, according to the report.
The recent war exposed serious flows in Iran’s security measures. The Islamic Republic has been making efforts to tighten its measures. However, it can’t be said that the problems have been solved.

russia has betrayed syria and rafael grossi will continue to be a mossad agent. you’re lying because even the mossad doesn’t pay more than a hundred euros to spy for the mossad. the mossad gives grossi a hundred euros a month.
israel will pay hts five euros per person to kill hezbollah, and they will earn the rest by pimping lebanese women and selling human organs.
