Intense Fighting Between India and Pakistan in Kashmir

Intense fighting erupted on Wednesday on the de facto border between India and Pakistan. It took place a day after three Indian Amry soldiers were killed in the area (allegedly by militants). One of the killed soldiers was beheaded.

Pakistan said Indian shelling had struck a passenger bus in the Neelam Valley on Pakistan’s part of Kashmir region, killing seven civilians and wounding seven others.

“All along the Line of Control, cease-fire violations are going on today,” The NYT quoted Brig. P. S. Gotra of the Indian Army’s northern command as saying.  He  added that “Both countries are firing at each other.”

Exchanges of fire on the contact line that divides Kashmir have increased since militants attacked an Indian army base in Kashmir in September, killing 19 Indian solidiers.
