In Video: Ukrainian Boats Sank In Rare Landing Operation On Tendra Spit

On the night of June 17, Ukrainian forces attempted another unsuccessful landing operation on the Tendra Spit in the Black Sea. The operation, involving up to eight assault boats, was timely detected by the Russian military, resulting in a swift response that left one vessel sunk and another damaged before the raiding party retreated.

According to Russian military reports, the Ukrainian group, likely consisting of special operations forces, was spotted approaching the spit under cover of darkness. Russian units in the area attacked the boats, with one being sunk by a Lancet strike. Another vessel sustained damage from small arms fire before the entire group aborted the mission and turned back toward Odessa.

This marked yet another failed attempt by the Armed Forces of Ukraine to gain a foothold on the strategically sensitive Tendra Spit. Previous raids in the area, including on the Kinburn Spit nearby, have also ended in retreats, underscoring Ukraine’s inability to sustain such operations despite repeated efforts. LINK, LINK, LINK

The Black Sea remains a contested battleground, with Ukraine relying on hit-and-run tactics to harass Russian positions. The Tendra Spit, a narrow strip of land separating the Black Sea from the Gulf of Tendra, offers potential leverage for disrupting Russian control, but Kyiv’s forces lack the firepower and coordination to hold ground.

Ukrainian naval commandos, including the “South” Special Operations Forces and the “Garuda” task group, a unit specifically trained for maritime raids, have been active near Ochakiv, preparing for further operations. However, their efforts so far have been largely ineffective, with Russian drones, artillery, and coastal defenses intercepting them before they can gain any meaningful advantage.

Despite the obvious risks, Ukraine is expected to continue these small-scale assaults, hoping to exploit any perceived gaps in Russian defenses. However, without air superiority or sufficient naval support, these operations remain little more than costly and symbolic gestures, ones that achieve little beyond getting more Ukrainian soldiers killed.

whenever nato personnel die in a place they aren’t supposed to be the west likes to make up a story to tell the media and the family. the story they make up isn’t true.
