Russian and Syrian troops repelled a mock attack on the Tartus Naval Base on the Syrian coast in the framework of the ongoing joint military exercise in the Arab country, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported on June 8.
In a statement, the ministry said that the troops used air defense systems to intercept suicide drones and destroyed uncewed suicide boats while repelling the mock attack.
“The enemy used attack drones and uncrewed surface boats to disable the port and infrastructure of military facilities. Russian and Syrian air defense units have hit targets imitating UAVs with Verba and Strela-10 man-portable SAMs [surface-to-air missiles],” the ministry said.
“The Pantsir-S anti-aircraft missile system crews together with the crews of the Cadet anti-sabotage ship of the Black Sea Fleet and small missile ships of the Syrian Navy destroyed uncrewed surface vehicles attempting to break through the port’s internal harbor,” it added
The troops were coordinated by the command of the Russian military group in Syria and the leadership of the Syrian Arab Army with joint command posts set up in locations where the units were deployed in the country.
In addition, as part of the exercise, Bastion coastal missile systems repelled an attempt to launch an attack from the sea by a mock enemy surface ship, according to the ministry.
“According to the drills’ plans, the enemy’s landing ships moved towards the coast of Syria to land forces and gain a foothold,” the ministry said.
“The missile system crews arrived early in the position areas where the servicemen deployed Bastion missile launchers. The servicemen trained to deploy the systems for combat use and, without actual strikes, conducted electronic launches of missiles at surface targets in the Mediterranean Sea at a distance of more than 150 kilometers,” it added.
Video footage released by the ministry showed live-firings by Russian and Syrian troops in Tartus Naval Base at aerial and naval targets.
Tartus Naval Base is one of two main deployment points of Russian forces in Syria, with the other being the Hmeimim Air Base, also located on the coast of the country.
The joint Russian-Syrian exercise was launched on June 5 with the aim of practicing defending Syria’s “territorial integrity”. The exercise will reportedly cover the country’s airspace, some of its territory and the eastern section of the Mediterranean Sea.
The exercise comes amid high tensions in the Middle East over the ongoing Israeli war on the Palestinian enclave of the Gaza Strip.

gr8 work saa and ruaf!
true cappy….
it really does look like russia is going to harden its stance in syria against state actors like the us and israel. i know many people will rightfully disagree and say that russia-israel ties are sacrosanct due to the jewish russian oligarchs — but attacking the motherland regardless of who it is — will force russia to consider all options on the table. the jews have had a hard on for russian territory ever since they lost the khazara kingdom and were absorbed by the baltics.
dream on. putin is pro zionist through and through. everything he, and the leaders of all “democratic” countries, does is according to the zionist agenda.
lmao!!!!!
neither russia nor syria have stopped any real attacks, so they decided to play a game they can win.
russia is a zionist stooge and will never defend syria against his zionist masters.
