On September 4, the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Navy destroyed four Ukrainian uncewed suicide boats, according to the Russian ministry of Defense.
The boats were destroyed in the northwestern part of the Black Sea, the ministry said in a brief statement, without elaborating.
Russian media reported that Orion drones played a key role in hunting down the Ukrainian boats, which were apparently on their way to attack the Crimean Peninsula.
The Orion was developed by Russia’s Kronstadt Group to conduct both reconnaissance and combat missions. The drone can be equipped with different payloads, including electro-optical, radar and electronic or signal intelligence gathering systems. It can also be armed with a wide range of precision-guided munitions.
The drone, which entered service with the Russian military very recently, has an endurance of 24 hours and a combat radius of 250 kilometers.
The Kiev regime intensified its attacks on Russian territory in the last few months, with Crimea being one of the main targets. Locally-made drones and boats as well as Western-made cruise and ballistic missiles were used in recent Ukrainian attacks on the Peninsula.
The latest attack on Crimea came as the Russian military is battling a large Ukrainian force that infiltrated the Russian region of Kursk early last August.
