The Russian military has targeted a Soviet-made S-300PT long-range air defense system of Kiev forces with a Lancet loitering munition.

Video footage of the strike were posted to social networks on May 10. The footage shows Lancet loitering munition attacking the system, which was deployed in the Aleksandro-Kalinovo area in the Donetsk direction, and destroying one of its 5P85-1 towed launchers. The successfully attack was reportedly carried out by the Russian military’s 3rd Guards Spetsnaz Brigade.

Prior to the start of the Russian special military operation, Kiev forces had around 100 S-300P, S-300PT, S-300PS and S-300V1 batteries in service. In the first few months of the operation, the country received a single S-300PMU battery from Slovakia.

Many of Ukraine’s S-300 systems have been destroyed, damaged or captured by the Russian military since the start of the operation.

The Lancet was developed by the ZALA Aero Group, a subsidiary of Russia’s defense giant Kalashnikov Concern. The company produces two versions of the loitering munition, the Izdeliye-52 with an endurance of 30 minutes and a one-kilogram warhead and the larger Izdeliye-51 that has an endurance of 40 minutes and is armed with a warhead weighting three kilograms.

The loitering munition flies towards the designated area with a GLONASS-aided inertial navigation system. After arriving in the area, the operator utilizes an onboard electro-optical system via a two-way data-link to detect, track and lock on the target. A laser-ranging system then controls the detonation of the warhead.

The small radar cross-section and minimal infrared signature of the electric-powered loitering munition makes it very difficult to detect and intercept.

According to Lostarmour.info, a website that tracks and documents military losses, the Russian military has damaged or destroyed more than 140 air defense, radar, electronic warfare and communication systems using Lancet loitering munitions since the start of the special military operation in Ukraine.

could be a decoy who knows the serbs used them as well and nato hit many decoys thinking it was real targets. the real danger for russia is social engeneering. thats what defeated yugoslavia not the battle itself. putin needs to place a group of people around himself who can all replace him and will make sure that none of them will be bought by the usa.
