The Russian military has destroyed an Israeli-made Improved and Enhanced Multi-Mission Hemispheric Radar (ieMHR) of Kiev forces in the Kharkiv direction using a Lancet loitering munition.
Video footage of the strike surfaced online on July 9. The footage shows the radar receiving a direct hit from a Lancet right after being deployed in a tree line. The explosion of the loitering munition set the radar on fire, effectively destroying it.
The ieMHR was developed by Israel’s RADA Electronic Industries to provide hemispheric surveillance. The system can operate as a part of counter-drone and short-range air defense systems or operate as a stand-alone counter-rocket, artillery and mortar radar.
The system has a maximum detection range of up to 100 kilometers, but that’s only for large transport aircraft. It can detect fighter jets from 65 kilometers and medium-sized drones from 45 kilometers. As for projectiles like rockets, artillery and mortars, the detection range is between 10-14 kilometers.
Last year, the Kiev force received some 16 ieMHR systems from Lithuanian. This wouldn’t have happened without the approval of the Israeli Ministry of Defense.
Israel was among the first countries to voice its support for the Kiev regime after the start of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine more than two years ago. Still, the Israeli government limited its air to Kiev force to non-lethal equipment.
This may be about to change however, as recent reports revealed that the United States, Israel and Ukraine are in talks to provide Kiev forces with up to eight MIM-104 Patriot long-range air defense systems currently owned and used by the Israeli military.
If this happens, Israel could face serious repercussions. Russia will likely respond by providing advanced arms to the country’s main foes, Iran and Syria.
