The remaining ISIS fighters in the middle Euphrates River Valley began to burn their weapons and ammunition on March 10 in a move which indicates that they are planning to surrender.

According to the Kurdish Hawar News Agency (ANHA), thick black smoke is covering the last terrorist group’s stronghold north of al-Baghuz al-Fawqani and explosions can be heard around the town.

“The flames are raising from al-Baghuz, the sounds of explosions are breaking the silence over al-Baghuz every now and then,” ANHA’s reporter said.

In the last 24 hours, 220 people left the ISIS-held pocket, including at least 130 fighters of ISIS, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR). The monitoring group said that more terrorists are preparing to surrender to the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

A spokesman for the SDF had told Reuters that the group will resume its final attack on ISIS on March 9. However, the remaining fighters continued to surrender which led to the extension of the ceasefire.

Now the remaining terrorists are apparently preparing to surrender, which means that the SDF could announce the liberation of the Euphrates Valley within a few days only.
