The Houthis (Ansar Allah) in Yemen released on July 17 video footage documenting the attack on the Liberia-flagged oil tanker Chios Lion in the Red Sea.
The vessel was attacked with an uncrewed suicide boat two days earlier because its owners violated the Houthis’ blockade on Israel and continued to ship goods to the country.
The video published by Houthis shows a powerful explosion resulting from the uncrewed suicide boat detonating into the left side of the oil tanker. It is worth noting that the boat was blurred in the footage, apparently to hide its characteristics and specifications.
“The [Yemeni] armed forces affirm that their operations will continue and will increase … as long as the Zionist aggression on the Gaza Strip is ongoing,” the Houthis warned in the video.
Both the Joint Maritime Information Center, which is overseen by the United States Navy, and the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations, which is a detachment of the Royal Navy, confirmed that the Chios Lion sustained damage in the attack.
Since last November, the Houthis have attacked dozens of vessels affiliated with Israel or owned by the U.S. and the UK in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, the Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea in response to the Israeli war and siege on Gaza.
In addition, the group launched dozens of drones and missiles at the southernmost Israeli city of Eilat and shot down six American-made combat drones over Yemen and nearby waters.
The U.S. and the UK have carried out hundreds of strikes against Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen since January in an attempt to deter the group and degrade its offensive capabilities, but to no avail.

kinda stupid … the houthis should avoid hitting oil tankers because it will cause an environmental disaster for their own shores and those of eqypt… to say nothing of fucking up fishing in the area. i could care less about the container ships, but tanker hits are a bad idea. use more descretion houthis !!!!
houthis gave ample warnings for many months, the only ways to prevent this is either stopping the genocide in gaza, or at least respecting the blockade. any ships who still try to force their way through to occupied palestinian ports are fully responsible for the consequences
people providing war material to israel are direct accessories to mass murder. in texas, being an accessory to a single murder can carry the death penalty. may their bodies remain unfound for eternity unless it is to stay here as victims in the future.
