The al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Hamas Movement, released on October 23 video footage showing a recent ambush that targeted an engineering unit of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in the northern Gaza Strip.
The group’s fighters attacked the unit to the south of al-Saftawi roundabout near the Jabaliya refugee camp with explosive devices and rocket-propelled grenades. A Merkava MK 4M main battle tank was damaged and two Caterpillar D9 armored bulldozers were completely destroyed in the ambush.
Another video released by the al-Qassam Brigades on the same day showed an attack with locally-made Rujom 114mm rockets on a headquarters of the IDF in the occupied Netzarim Corridor in central Gaza. The corridor isolates the northern part of the Strip from its south.
On October 24, the al-Quds Brigade, the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, released a video with some of its own attacks in northern Gaza.
The footage showed an Israeli soldier being sniped and an attack with rocket-propelled grenades on a large armored gathering of the IDF.
The IDF has been operating in Jabaliya and other parts of northern Gaza for more than two weeks. Most of the Palestinians who were living there have already been forcibly displaced to the southern part of the Strip. Israeli strikes destroyed much of the north, yet Hamas, Islamic Jihad and other factions continue to resist.
So far, the IDF has lost 358 troops in the ground operations within Gaza and along its border. More than 2,344 others have been reportedly wounded. In addition, over 500 vehicles were hit in the Strip, according to Hebrew media.
On the Palestinian side, the death toll from the Israeli war has exceeded 42,800, with women and children making up most of the casualties.
