Early on December 26, at least 85 Turkish military vehicles and trucks entered the Greater Idlib region in northwestern Syria, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
The UK-based monitoring group said in a report that a part of the vehicles headed towards a Turkish observation post near the town of al-Eis in southwestern Aleppo, while the rest moved to a second observation post in the district of al-Rashidin west of Aleppo’s city center.
Opposition activists released a video showing a part of the convoy, which entered Greater Idlib form a border crossing near Kafr Lusin.
The convoy likely transported reinforcements and supplies to al-Eis and al-Rashidin posts. It’s unclear if this move was coordinated with Russian forces or the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), which are carrying out a large-scale military operation in Greater Idlib now.
About 100 Turkish military vehicles entered Greater Idlib on December 20. The vehicles were meant as reinforcements for observation posts in southern Idlib and northwest Hama.
Last week, the SAA besieged a Turkish observation post near the town of al-Surman in southeast Idlib. Now the army is approaching two other posts in the same region, which explain why Ankara is sending reinforcements.
