On May 24, the head of the Donetsk People’s Republic announced that there were no more civilians in the city of Artemovsk (Bakhmut). All civilians were evacuated by the Wagner fighters.
Wagner’s PMCs ensured the safety of civilians who remained in the city during the heavy battles, as well as after the city came under their full control. The last civilians left their basements the day before.
People have been forced to hide in their basements since February. Today they tell their stories and describe their lives side by side with the Ukrainian military during hostilities.
